How To Get More Bang For Your Click With Google Adwords

Google adwords is a very powerful marketing platform for businesses of all types. It is by far one of the the fastest and easiest ways to place your business on the first page of search results for keywords that your clients and customers may be typing into the monster search engine to find information and make purchases.

If you are currently using adwords, then you know that you must place a bid on a keyword and then pay a price per every click your ad gets. It’s pretty simple, however, it can become very expensive in competitive markets!  I have seen ad clicks cost as much as $5, $10, $20, and even $100 per click!
It takes money to make money, right?

I spend a lot of time helping businesses, especially local businesses, approach their online marketing in much smarter and cost effective ways. Adwords is one of those areas I see 99% of businesses owners making expensive and wasteful mistakes with!

The biggest mistake I see made over and over has to do with where they are sending their click through traffic from the ads. In other words, when a person clicks on your adwords ad, what do they see next?

What do most businesses owners do? They send visitors to their website. Yikes! Not usually a good idea at all! Why, you ask? I mean…where else are you going to send them? Well, how about a lead generation page!

Example of "Ugly" Lead Page That Works! Click To Enlarge

Also known as a squeeze page or a lead capture page, a lead generation page is designed to do one thing and one thing only…get you a lead for your business! People are lazy, and people online are lazy times ten! They really don’t want to go through your online brochure (AKA your website) and read everything you think is so awesome about your business, product, or service.

What they often want is a fast, simple, and effective solution to what they are looking for. Let me use an example to illustrate my point.

We have ABC Law Offices who have a nice flashy and pretty site they are sending their adwords traffic to. They expect that a visitor will call the number or maybe even fill out a request form on the page and indeed this does happen a certain percentage of the time. So what’s the problem? Well, technically there isn’t one, however, by using a well designed lead capture page they could easily double or triple the amount of adwords visitors who decide to contact their law firm.

I have seen, in my experience, that a contact form on a normal website homepage will get roughly 1-5% of visitors to fill out the form. A good lead page will convert anywhere from 15 – 30% of visitors. If you are paying $5 per click and get 100 visitors at a cost of $500, would you rather have 1 to 5 visitors contact your or 15 to 30 for your $500 ad spend?

Results vary with every situation, however, I always get much better results using a well-crafted lead capture page than even the best looking website on the planet. Couple that with the ability now automate a follow-up marketing campaign via text message, email, and postcard, and you have your self a much more sustainable and cost effective approach to your advertising efforts. AKA More bang for your click!
